@nytpu huh, that's what's making me think it's a marketing thing. Like "Look how little extra work you need to do to accommodate our sweet new console!"

If you need to be cheered up; just imaging Hank Hill saying "Now just hwat the /hell/ is a Dangonronpa?"

Bleek, Fatalistic sci-fi and also nazis mentioned

A sci-fi story where someone goes back in time to kill Hitler and returns to the present to learn that history's greatest monster is some rando French Canadian dipshit who rose to power and had more or less the same beliefs.

The 20th century proceeds more or less the same with only the minor details changing. Wars start and end at slightly different times. Some of the key players are swapped out. Pretty much everything that seems like a major event from a human perspective plays out exactly as it did in the original timeline.

Sure, chaos and the butterfly effect are chilling; but what if it's all just magnetic fields, all arcing toward some predestined trajectory, set in motion billions of years prior and everyone; even god like men with the power to manipulate time itself; is uttrrly, hopelessly powerless to change that fact.

Ahh, fuck. I'm gonna need to git guud at c programming, aren't I?

@rgegriff @c0debabe you could stream the video from it to a HMD and have it be your third-person-camera like Lakitu.

Ok, so I have figured out how to grab a live stream from youtube using yt-dlp; and then feed it into vlc telling it to ignore the video so I don't have to waste processing power decoding video frames.

Anyone know if it would be possible to not download the video component to begin with? Like, when you pull streams from youtube, it seems you can specify the audio quality/format separately from the video quality/format; this implies to me that it's two separate unmuxed streams.

So can I get yt-dlp to ONLY stream the audio component? It seems that that might be a way to save some bandwidth.

It just seems wild to me that I have to download video to listen to these various lofi streams.

I guess I /could/ theoretically setup a VPS to relay the audio of the streams as internet radio streams. That would seemingly save bandwidth over the home link; but that seems to be counter productive given the whole point of this exercise is to use as little electricity and bandwidth as possible :\

Prism turned out to be a way to trick the tech giants into thinking that they were in control of the NSA's harvesting of their users' data. But what was really going on was that the NSA was capturing *everything*, picking out the stuff they wanted, and requesting it via Prism (this is called "parallel construction" and it's used when an agency does not want to reveal its methods to its partners or adversaries).

The companies denied it at first, but they changed their tunes - and squealed like stuck pigs - when another NSA program called "Upstream" was revealed. "Upstream" was the NSA's practice of wiretapping the fiber lines between Big Tech's data-centers.

I want to build a drone that can land on my forearm like a falcon and then charge.

Well, Prey whips ass pretty hard.
Go watch that shit

People say that TikTok is cringe, but have you seen LinkedIn?

I wonder if I could make a giant eink "pixel" by using black ferrofluid and a similarly dense oil with a white pigment.

From the OSS Manual on sabotage:

  • When possible, refer all matters to committees for "further study and consideration". Attempt to make the committees as large as possible—never fewer than five

  • Bring up irrelevant issues as frequently as possible.
Haggle over precise wordings of communications, minutes, resolutions.

  • In making work assignments, always sign out unimportant jobs first, assign important jobs to inefficient workers with poor machines.

  • Insist on perfect work in relatively unimportant products; send back for refinishing those with the least flaw. Approve other defective parts whose flaws are not visible to the naked eye.

  • To lower morale, and with it, production, be pleasant to inefficient workers; give them undeserved promotions. Discriminate against efficient workers; complain unjustly about their work.

  • Hold meetings when there is more critical work to be done.

  • Multiply procedures and clearances involved in issuing instructions, paychecks, and so on. See that multiple people must approve everything where one would do.

  • Spread disturbing rumors that sound like inside information.

This didn't get a lot of attention when I posted it on here... ok! But maybe I should re-state why it's interesting.

If you've wanted to get into Scheme or SICP, this is like a from-0-experience Scheme tutorial that compresses about 3/4 of SICP's core into an hour / 30 pages!
