Pinned post

Hello fedi! I've been around for a bit but haven't done an introduction post.

I build stuff I find fun or think will be interesting/useful for others! I have a tendency to make small projects, usually to serve niche communities, or projects philosophically aligned to my beliefs.

Sometimes shitposting, sometimes serious tech, philosophy or politics.

Not a fan of capitalism, exploring anarchist philosophy as I develop my own views.

Open to any follows, please interact if you'd like, if we interact and you're interesting I'll likely follow.

Trans rights are human rights.

another open source rant contd.

In conclusion, I feel like Open Source philosophy can be quite often stuck in the age of computing where only technical people owned computers.

In that scenario, it is more obvious why source disclosure would be an effective means of creating some egalitarian outcomes in the space. In an age where everyone uses a computer, it does not.

I wonder if there's such a thing as guerilla gardening geocaching.

Coronavirus, Long Covid, ME/CFS

Seems it might not be common knowledge that if you have covid, you *mustn't* push yourself to build your activity levels back to normal. There's a high likelihood that Long Covid is a type of ME/CFS, a disabling chronic illness which often follows a viral infection. Everyone with ME will tell you: do not push yourself! At that delicate phase of recovery you could seriously risk becoming permanently disabled. Rest as much as possible, and err on the safe side!

re: USPOL

@maddiefuzz I think Mike Godwin's original point was that a lot of comparisons to Nazi Germany that were being used online at the time trivialized the reality of Nazism and the Holocaust. I think a lot of people missed the point though and turned it into a way to "win" arguments. As long as you're treating terrible events with the right amount of gravity, I think you're definitely fine mentioning them (even if there are some people who will treat it like a gotcha in some kind of game).

At what point is it valid to fulfill Godwin’s law?

I still feel ridiculous for bringing up Nazi Germany even when talking about fascism.

Most Americans - including educated, informed Americans; including people working in politics and the media - still don’t understand how close we are to fully losing our democracy in the next year or two.

When I see someone set their name to “autistic catgirl programmer”, and it could honestly be anyone I follow…

Tech people's biggest mistake is thinking code and cryptography is enough to make the world a better place.

If CSS is Turing complete, I suggest we start deprecating JavaScript.

USPOL and Trek

We’re going to take our once a week break from these nightmare policies and decisions to enjoy some optimistic escapism into media. I’m hoping the SNW episode is just as good this week as others have been.

I think there's still a need for more men in dresses

re: anti-trans news, Alabama politics

Well that sure as shit didn't take long.

"The state is asking a federal appeals court to lift an injunction and let it enforce an Alabama law that would make it a felony to give puberty blockers or hormones to transgender minors to help affirm their gender identity."

Transgender kids are the wedge for all GNC, NB, and trans people, of all ages. They are being attacked first because they are the weakest. It is unbelievably cruel, almost ahistorical. It's the torture of children.

i am remembering a lot of those people who posted the "i don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people" thing and thinking that i don't know how to explain to them that they should care about disabled people
