USPOL/honeypots

They're making a list, checkin' it twice...

Twitter losing their mind to sign this...

While I totally agree with the desired outcome... that is one helluva dangerous list if we don't really know who put it up.

re: USPOL/honeypots

I want to be perfectly clear... This one may be just fine, and totally legit... and that's great... but this is the exact sort of thing a pro uses to phish with...

USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson Could be either for USGov or some form of actual KKK group trying to find locals. Scary stuff.

re: USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson good call G

Given the effectiveness of changedotorg petitions, I don’t see how this is worth the risk.

USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson I try to sign petitions like that pretty much because of that reason… if you can't stop people from falling into the honeypot you can overwhelm the honeypot with masses, no?

re: USPOL/honeypots

@MsAcacia There is a herd immunity... but you are still turning over personal info to an unknown entity.

Not saying it is a bad thing to sign... just that it could be a dangerous thing to sign...

re: USPOL/honeypots

@MsAcacia on the other side... the idea that Orange Julius would be moved by a change.org petition, seems on it's face, highly unlikely.

re: USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson I agree with you. What I'm saying is that as a tech person who understands the risks and cannot stop people from giving PII for free I choose to share the risk to minimize it for everyone.

re: USPOL/honeypots

@MsAcacia A potentially valid approach, assuming that the organizer is targeting a group, and not just netting as many as they can...

You aren't wrong... most data use models would buckle under a flood campaign.

re: USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson @MsAcacia

something like the generator that makes faces that don't exist but for human browsing data mite be cool

USPOL/honeypots

@thegibson It could be legit, but there are some red flags, like pointing out the KKK has 1A protections but still using language like "the government allows them to exist" which sounds like a right-winger's idea about how left-wingers talk

If it's not a troll or a Honeypot, I'd be very surprised

A bunch of technomancers in the fediverse. Keep it fairly clean please. This arcology is for all who wash up upon it's digital shore.
