Serious question... is a sales engineer a promotion for a normal engineer?
Just trying to figure out where it fits in the pecking order, because part of me says it is, and part of me screams "TRAITOR" when I hear it.
@TheGibson As I understand it, a sales engineer finds out how to trick a customer into believing the tech being sold actually is capable to fit the use case.
@TheGibson i once worked for an organization (within Sun Microsystems, circa mid-90s) that glorified this as "tactical engineering"
@TheGibson yes it is. Requires a bit more social skills. Usually pays a bit more.
Also need to sell your soul to the sales target devil 😈 💰
Yeah, the social skills thing is something I've always had...
I have had two seperate offers lately from orgs that know me.
Both were sales engineers.
not sure how I feel about that.
