Someone’s gone through and annotated “The Story of Mel, a Real Programmer”—melsloop.com/

I honestly thought Ed Nather had made the whole thing up, but apparently Mel, the company they both worked for, the computer made out of drums and vacuum tubes, and the blackjack-playing demo program were all real.

A lot of people don't want to see #political discourse on Mastodon. I don't mind it, but I do want it to be oriented toward the practical rather than the performative. #twitter rewards amplification, which turns political discourse turns into a competition over who can mast impress upon others just how urgent things are, until that practically drowns our efforts to organize for change. And we carry those habits with us everywhere if we're not mindful.
