vaccine mention, side effects, general update unrelated to vaccines

I conveniently scheduled an all-staff LSQ hangout the day after I got my first vaccine shot. :blobfacepalm: I scheduled it before I had my appointment oh well.

Feeling pretty shitty this morning. Definite soreness at the shot site, mild nausea, fatigue, mild headache. Not bad, just gonna take it easy today.

I'm more concerned about the second dose, but I'm hopeful about the anecdotal evidence I've been hearing about it helping with lingering covid symptoms.

Until then, rest and puttering around running backups and playing with Trello and cleaning up files, etc.

This is going in my "I am having a hard day and need encouragement" folder:

(yes, it's TikTok don't hate me)

"… It tones down less important parts (like punctuation and brackets) and highlights only the important ones. This leads to a more calm color scheme, but still lets you find the stuff you’re looking for."

This tool set on the Dark Desert theme combined with a brackets colorizer and Operator Mono with its fancy italics is a really nice setup.

I was using Dracula the last year or so and I still like it but It's nice to find a brown theme that I actually like.

Windows are open, breeze is blowing, and the sun is starting to set. I'm listening to music and puttering around installing python and playing with obsidian and...

I don't remember the last time I felt this peaceful.

My change in my phone use habits is already paying off.

I have a sweatshirt that’s gotten grimy and worn. I might take some scissors to it to see if I can extend its life by hacking off the hood and cuffs.

It's the one thing in my career I'm embarrassed to say I worked on. My first tech lead experience and it's something I want to shove in a closet and forget I ever did it.

I worked on one of the first ecommerce sites to leverage AMP, went to Google in NYC for a hands-on workshop and everything. I took the opportunity to question the whole thing at every turn, and I have hated it ever since.

While a little misleading (AMP isn't actually ending, it's just being de-prioritized) this is still a breath of fresh air I needed.

Finally took the 45 seconds I needed to refine my github settings so I stop getting work-related PR notifications in my personal inbox that eats about 2 minutes of my day deleting.

Thinking about resurrecting my old ipod nano for taking walks.

I figured out with the help of my hosting folks that the DuckDuckGo privacy plugin was preventing me from using my own wordpress installs. 🙄

On reclaiming boredom

I am starting a challenging experiment: seeking ways to reclaim my brain and creativity from the attention economy. I'm not overly tied to my phone. I'm not on facebook and the only

I've noted lately that when I'm feeling more loose and inner, when I communicate I start using big and antiquated words and speaking/writing in a very formal style. I think it obscures my communications with others, but it's also interesting to me that that's how my mind compensates. So if you see me using "hence" well, yeah. I'm doing my best.

"Living Like It's 99: No Social Media, No Smartphone" by Gregory Alvarez

This is fascinating. I'm not this hardcore, but the way he describes it, maybe it's not so bad? The credit-card-sized dumbphone is neat.

Hey! We're running a game jam on Itch that focuses on making an audio game. Audio games are games that are played completely by ear and don't have eyes as a minimum requirement! I'd absolutely love for you to join and give it a try!
And if you know someone that might find this interesting, maybe tell them? <3
We start on April 9th, and submissions close on April 26th.
