Announcing Meme It So! It's a Star Trek The Next Generation Meme and GIF Generator, inspired by Frinkiac.

It has every line of dialogue spoken on STTNG tied to screencaptures. Which makes it good for looking up lines as well.

I think I'll use it to make a STTNG botsin.space bot next.

@kupad at work my signature move is to attach a Star Trek gif to every pull request I submit.

I've been relying on r/startrekgifs so far (nearly 2 years now) but they've shifted over to submitting more high-res mp4s which github refuses to allow to be attached to a PR so this will be very helpful!

@technomancy That's awesome!

I was wondering if they were using gifv, webm or something along those lines.

Besides having nostalgia for the original GIF, there's clearly an advantage to it being universally supported.

@technomancy BTW, a mod at r/startrekgifs added Meme It So to their wiki!

@RadicalEdward @technomancy There's a magic trick quality to this. I think it clicks together when you think about translating between a time offset and a specific frame based on the fps of the original video.

@kupad @RadicalEdward out of curiosity, have you seen ARST ARSW?

I suspect the implementation would have a lot in common

@technomancy @RadicalEdward Wow, that's pretty cool. No I haven't seen that before. They definitely had to do something similar. But they're keeping a time index of each word, which is more granular than Meme It So.

@kupad @RadicalEdward I think it took a lot of manual tweaking of the time offsets, which is hard enough for a single film but probably completely impractical for seven seasons.

@kupad this is absolutely incredible, thank you so so much

@kupad we need to expand it to DS9 just so I can look up “Glory to you... and your house!”

@dustin I am considering doing TOS, TAS, and DS9 eventually.

@Sandra I wonder why mastadon doesn't render the image? Could it be because the url doesn't end in jpg? I'm pretty sure the mime type is right.

@kupad I sent it to one of the Frinkiac creators and his response was: "ha, nice :)"

@kupad yeah we worked together at Rackspace! 😁

@ehashman Cool!

FWIW, I think Frinkiac is amazing! Just the perfect idea.

@kupad :4lights: I'm going to be so cool in the eyes of other peeps for only giving them this link :ablobcool:

:blep: I'm overwhelmed by the possibilities that I'm literally stunned at what to do, what to look up and what to make :aaaa:
