Switched my Fairphone 2 to the Fairphone Open OS (sans Google) and it feels a lot better.

I'd reinstalled the original Fairphone OS yesterday to switch back from LineageOS but having to pass that many Google "consent" screens before you can even use the device was too anxiety inducing.

Of course the whole thing is still dependent on Google development and the inner workings of the architecture are designed by Google, who don't really care about my interests, but I guess there still is no real competitor to Android.

You’ve been inside too long by when you realise you have a hierarchy of forks and are sad when you are down to the weird one.

Idea for a new generic TLD: targetted advertising, popups, cookie consent banners, GDPR consent banners are banned and you get your domain name revoked if any of those things appear on your website. You can still use cookies and ask for consent, but only when signing up to an account and periodically to refresh consent. No tracking of casual visitors. Content cannot require an account if the account is the only thing that would prevent you from seeing it, i.e. you're not offering meaningful privacy controls because the viewer could just register an account and see the content.

It's like .dev being on the HSTS preload list except for privacy and usability.

time perception

It is week 06 of year 2021, day 1 of the week, and day 39 of the year.

Pretty certain either time is speeding up or I'm slowing down.

Finally got a Creative BT-W3 bluetooth audio transmitter, and deactivated the integrated audio device (all my speakers/headphones are BT capable). It's pretty nice they include an USB-C -> A adapter. As long as you don't put it parallel to a wall, it has a nice range, and no noticeable lag even when using SBC.

Volume control does not work for me, but all my devices have some.

jcs@ made a great article to make it run on OpenBSD: jcs.org/2020/11/18/openbsd_bta

Today's experience was @acute 's idea. If anyone knows who at GitHub I should be forwarding the coffee invoices to, let me know.

Of all the things I thought might happen today, a joke photo of my bathroom door making my phone go ping ping ping ping with notifications wasn't one of them.

pronoun jokes

Do you have pronouns in your profile, but maybe you made like a half-baked joke using them? Or you put some on a bot account or joke account, kind of doing a bit?

Profiles can list pronouns, or not list them, or list multiple, or change them over time. That's our choice!

But it's ... actually very uncool for those of us who are cis and trying to be supportive and help normalize the practice to crack jokes because we felt weird adding them. Maybe it's time to go check and edit?
