Nearly a million people without power in California and the news shows are saying PGE is doing the right thing prioritizing interruption of service over a blazing wildfire.

That's true. But let's not forget their haphazard expansion policies, profit-over-safety motives and their lobbying fiercely against any and all competition (including making it illegal to bring your homes to fully off-grid status and making electrical sharing between properties illegal) has put us here. PG&E has caused this problem and now they're jeopardizing core infrastructure in the State to cover up for it, while filing for bankruptcy and whining they don't have money to fix the problem.

@endomain "They're doing a fine job addressing a problem that they wholly and utterly created themselves."

@tek @endomain I should probably buy some of their stock to get the quarterlies.

@endomain did they really make it illegal to go off grid? That's fucking bs

@devosmium
It's that way in most places I know. Like collecting rainwater.
@endomain

@devosmium @SporkyDorky The goal isn't to make sense. The goal is to harass poor people.

@endomain
The goal is for government to restrict freedoms and funnel power. The goal is to stray from the Constitution in the way that it restricts liberty instead of protecting it. The goal is to allow entities control over the free man's necessities. The goal is to artificially control the economy. The goal is to take freedom away. Laws != Morals. You are free.
@devosmium

@SporkyDorky @devosmium I'm not sure that this is a government conspiracy. This is just how capitalism interacts with government.

@endomain
Power is power. I don't see it as a conspiracy. I see it as corruption, although, it takes more than one to tango.
@devosmium

@endomain
Exactly. One should not serve the other. Government's purpose as outlined in the Constitution is to protect liberties. That is all.
@devosmium

@endomain what is especially bad is they are leveraging legitimate electrical safety concerns (about accidentally backfeeding the grid with local generators, which /can/ be dangerous), knowing that unlike many other parts of the world there is less danger of the whole lot being nationalised and a minimum amount of compensation paid to shareholders (as happened with UK railways infrastructure when it became unsafe post privatisation)

A bunch of technomancers in the fediverse. Keep it fairly clean please. This arcology is for all who wash up upon it's digital shore.
