Hey #Hackers #Fediverse, I am involved in a talk at #RightsCon about IoT """security""" and would like to give some suggestions of terms that can replace "hackers", "hacking", "hack" in the context of cybercriminals, malicious activity, and break-in.

So far got:

hackers -> cybercriminals, attackers, malicious actors

hacking -> breaking into, compromising

hack -> break-in, compromise

Suggestions very welcome!

I really enjoyed the presentation folks, just wanted to say its good to see the fedi being represented in such a considerate and helpful way. I've been kicking around since 2018 and it's been a real joy to see so many people put so much into it, regardless of instance.

Every day I'm never disappointed, there is always someone posting something new and interesting. Different viewpoints, new threads and ideas to explore.

Kudos to you all.

"I'm everywhere" -- @drwho

y'all may think the doctor is joking, but he's dead serious.

@tek
It takes a bit of thought and to some extent new people do have to be open to trying out another instance if it doesn't work. I've seen this before with livejournal and when people moved to FB and tumblr from LJ. If you are used to moving networks it's easier emotionally. So I suspect it's easier to be patient and try different instances if you are used to trying completely different networks.

Blast from the past on the Bristol Indymedia raid. ie.indymedia.org/article/10499
I remember being horrified that the police would do that. Although I was in my early 20s then.

A bunch of technomancers in the fediverse. Keep it fairly clean please. This arcology is for all who wash up upon it's digital shore.
