Four years ago today Gila and I embarked on a most exciting journey of joy, love, adventure, and excitement.

Things in general were going so well and so smoothly for so long, I guess I was overdue for a week like this one to balance things out. :flan_facepalm:

Encountered this incredible closed caption in the movie "Beyond the Black Rainbow" (2010)

Hey folks working on #Fediverse projects like #Mastodon, #PixelFed, #WriteAs: I'm a writer who's spent 20 years writing blog posts, documentation, product copy, social media, and a little UX writing for a variety of orgs large and small.

Recent work involves the Bear notes app, previously: 1Password.

I can't contribute as a dev, but I can definitely help write, edit, or just polish your user-facing comms.

Can anyone help get this in front of relevant folks? Or point out how I can reach them?

Legit work emails/IMs I ignore or just plain blocklist:

My password is too hard.
(Its supposed to be)

Do I really have to come into the office to change my password?
(No, but I'm not dealing with you remotely borking your login)

Why can't I use my regular password, its secure?
('Regular and password' go together like 'ketchup and bubblegum')

Someone mentioned lyric videos?
Here's my favorite official lyric video ever, "Rasterscan (Part 2)" by Ricardo Autobahn.

I am therapeutically self-applying these items at various points throughout the day.

"The Internet Origin Story You Know Is Wrong -- The history of the internet is repeatedly reduced to the story of the singular Arpanet. But BBSs were just as importantβ€”if not more."

By Kevin Driscoll

Probably not a lot of people know this now, but Mastodon's web app started out with "Publish". In 2016 a famous YouTuber jokingly offered to support Mastodon's Patreon forever if I changed the button to say "Toot" instead. Needless to say, this was a really early, and not very informed decision. The first glimpse of attention and financial support. As a non-native speaker I had no idea there was another meaning.

Do you know any good transcribers looking for work?

I've finally begun transcribing the one of my podcasts which has been lacking that form of accessibility. Now you can read along with that time I showed Gila 1992's "Sneakers."

I'd love to have more of these done, and we're slowly working on them in our rare bits of spare time, but we're never going to get through the backlog without some help.

I'm not looking for AI transcription; I have bots too. I know about the huge faceless sites and services, but I'd vastly prefer to pass the work to an individual human person from the small-business/freelance world if at all possible.

I don't have a massive budget (it's a non-commercial free-content pod I fund totally out of my pocket) but I want to pay a fair price. I can supply a bot-generated first draft to work from.

Dear open source users,

If the author of your favorite open source app has announced they stopped developing and supporting the app (because they're frustrated and possibly burned out), please don't suggest they do more free work so that you can continue using the app.
Instead, consider thanking them for their past work and let them know that you enjoyed their app.

At this point "I don't know anyone with #LongCovid" is like "I don't know anyone who's been sexually assaulted."

It says more about your trustworthiness as a listener than it does about what's going on with the people around you.

A bunch of technomancers in the fediverse. This arcology is for all who wash up upon it's digital shore.
