The game "Super Mario Bros. 35" for Nintendo Switch is being cheerfully advertised as releasing October 1, and remaining playable only until March 31.

If you went shopping for a Mario cartridge back in the NES days and the clerk said "by the way, this game you're getting is going to self-destruct this March and you won't be able to play it anymore," that'd have been NUTS.
