"Why it's OK to block ads"
If you have a .org domain name: go renew it now. For the full 10 years.
Registration rights for .org were just bought by a private equity firm. And as part of that contract, the price caps were removed.
Anything in .org will get much more expensive, soon.
A ten year renewal will cost you a bit over a hundred bucks. Which is probably less than one year will cost you in the very near future.

Modern group discussions
There is a robust thread on the LLVM mailing list about moving to more modern group communication tools, with Discord and Discourse instances set up.
I'm not a big fan (I refuse to use Discord; Discourse is much less worse) but as I read the thread and the problems people have with mailing lists and IRC, I can't help but think how much open source fucked up on these two things, especially email.
Honestly, searching email archives sucks. Just look at the LLVM or GCC ones, assuming you can find them. And then there's the insane flood of messages you get when you sign up.
I. Love. Email. It's my preferred mode of online communication. When it comes to large group discussions, it's sub-par.
It's really sad that Usenet completely dropped the ball on adapting to the spam overload because it could be much better suited for these things. Unfortunately, it got stuck in a nefarious world of binaries and never recovered.

How to recognize AI snake oil.
"AI excels at some tasks, but can’t predict social outcomes. We must resist the enormous commercial interests that aim to obfuscate this fact. In most cases, manual scoring rules are just as accurate, far more transparent, and worth considering."
Still reading, but it's got enough going for it that I'll post it anyway.
A bunch of technomancers in the fediverse. Keep it fairly clean please. This arcology is for all who wash up upon it's digital shore.
